Sad Song

from Half Empty by Robin Tymm

/

lyrics

Day after day and year after year
I’m singing these songs that no-one will hear
I’m writing down words, even I don’t know quite what they mean
It’s the loneliest journey I’ve chosen to make
But at least there’s nobody to see my mistakes
They are crossed through and torn out
Screwed up then thrown in the bin

CHORUS
With tunes ten-a-penny, a dozen-a-dime
Oh, what chance do I have with these sad songs of mine?
They’re worth next to nothing, or they’re priceless, I cannot decide
The most expensive ingredients I can afford
Are a head full of thoughts and a handful of chords
But if that’s not enough, I don’t think I can give any-more

Though I’ve not discovered, I’m sure there’s a way
I can keep making music but start making it pay
Though if that never happens I’ll do what I do anyway
Perhaps what I need’s to get up in some bar
And to beat out a song on some battered guitar
I’ll forget where we are and pretend no-one’s watching me play

REPEAT CHORUS

It’s the best and the worst
It’s a gift, it’s a curse
But there’s nothing else working for me
Should I cash in my chips?
Start by calling it quits
And accepting how it’s gonna be

REPEAT CHORUS
